Xperia phones will stay here, Sony CEO says!

The CEO of Sony Mr. Kaz Hirai was interviewed by the Guardian, where Hirai gave a full-length description about the different divisions of the company. The most interesting thought of his was about the Sony smartphones.

The good news by Hirai was that Sony smartphones are here to say; however, the bad news is that the phones will not be there. Sony’s CEO believes that the future is something other than the phones, and Sony will definitely stay in the communication business in order to maintain its lead.

As Hirai put it himself, ‘It’s not about the smartphones of today; it’s more about looking beyond smartphones – at what are we going to be doing – and to be a player in this space; ideally to be a leader. For that strategic reason, I want to make sure we stay, not in the smartphone business, per se, but in the communications business.’

Some other companies such as Apple, Samsung and LG have already given a hint about the smartphone alternatives, where smartwatches are one thing to consider. The idea of phone-free life is what Sony is also aiming at. However, smartphones are also here to stay for a while owing to the higher demand of bigger screens in phones.
