Mobile data usage is growing exceptionally in Pakistan esp. after the arrival of 3G/4G spectrum, expressed Dr. Ismail Shah, Chairman PTA, and during his keynotes at recently held road-show organized by Nokia Networks.Dr. Ismail Shah revealed “Pakistani mobile phone customersused up a total of 6,840 tera-bytes (TBs) of data during December 2014, up from just 1,243 tera-bytes (TBs) during January 2014 showing almost 600% growth in data usage”.
Dr. Shah asserted that real growth started after the auction of 3G/4G spectrum, however, the steep upward curve is something beyond expectation.
With one third of total mobile data being consumed by 2G users, Pakistani market poses a huge potential for 3G and 4G operators in the country.
Currently only major cities are covered by 3G operators and a huge rural market is still unexplored. The rural market is going to use 3G as its primary source of high-speed internet thus offering immense potential for data consumption.
According to an estimation “percentage of data revenues reached 25% of total revenues of mobile phone operators with-in first year of 3G/4G launch in the Pakistan”, which shows that with over 200 million population, it is going to generate promising revenuesfor future telecoms.
