How to root Samsung Galaxy J5

 Process:

  1. Back-Up

First back up the data in case you brick your device. This step is common in all rooting methods which is for the security of your data. Either store the data in the SD card or store it in the PC

You can also use Samsung Kies to back up the data. But we prefer to do it manually to get the control over the content to back up

 

  1. Download Samsung Galaxy J5 USB driver

Download the USB drivers in your system so that you can connect your smartphone with the system. Use this link to download the software.

 

  1. Enable USB debugging mode on your Samsung Galaxy J5

To enable the USB debugging mode follow these steps.

  • Go to Settings on your Galaxy J5
  • Scroll down and look for ‘Developer Options’ and tap there
  • Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking

The developer option is not visible in settings by default. You can make it visible by the following steps

  • Go to Settings on your smartphone
  • Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap over there
  • Tap on Build Number 5 or 7 times to make the Developer Options visible
  • Now follow the standard steps to enable USB debugging and also OEM Unlocking

 

  1. Download the root package for Samsung Galaxy J5

You are required to download the root package for Galaxy J5. The root packages are different for every variant of the Samsung Galaxy J5, depending on your region of purchase. In Pakistan, the model mostly used is J500. You can check your model by the following steps

 

  • Go to Settings on your smartphone
  • Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap over there
  • Note down the model number

Now use the links below and download the root package for your respective model. All the links lands to the website of Chainfire, the CF behind CF Auto-Root. Extract the Galaxy J5 CF Auto Root package and save your files in a folder in your system

  1. Open your smartphone in Fastboot mode

 

You can boot your smartphone into the Fastboot mode by using the following

  • Switch off your smartphone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down, Home and Power Button simultaneously.

Once your device boots into the download mode you can connect it to your computer using the original USB data cable preferred.

 

  1. Process on your PC/System

When you have connected your device open the folder where you have already extracted the CF Auto-Root.

  • Find the Odin3.exe and open it. Now if you have proper USB drivers of your device in your system you will be able to see ‘Added’ in Odin dialogue box
  • Click on ‘AP’/’PDA button and select the ‘.tar.md5’ file by navigating to the folder where you have already extracted the CF Auto-Root package.
  • Click on the ‘Start’ button.

When you click on the start button the flashing process will start and when the process is finished your device will reboot automatically. Now if you want to confirm if you have performed the rooting correctly. Download the root checker application from Google Play store and if you see the confirmation message it means you are good to go.
