How to root Samsung Galaxy J7

The Android is famous for its customizability.  We would be explaining you the rooting for Samsung Galaxy J7. As explained before that in some cases you need a PC and in some cases you do not. We would be using the PC method because this is permanent method

How to root Samsung Galaxy J7

Disclaimer: Rooting your Samsung smartphone will void its manufacturer’s warranty and you may damage your device. In case of any damage in any form mobile phone collection will not to be held responsible in anyways. You may proceed at your own risk.

Process:

 

  1. Back-Up

First backup the data in case you brick your device

You can do the following

 

  • Copy all the data from you mobile to your SD card and remove it.
  • You can also use your PC to back-up the data.
  • Samsung also has the functionality of using Samsung Kies to back up the data.

 

  1. Download Samsung Galaxy J7 USB driver for PC

Download the drivers in your computer. For this you can

 

  • Download Samsung USB   Drivers  (http://www.devfiles.co/download/AbRa7wHc/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe)
  • Download Samsung KIES for J7 (http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/) (which bundles drivers as well)

 

 

  1. Enable USB debugging mode on your Galaxy J7

To enable the USB debugging mode follow these

  • Go to Settings on your smartphone
  • Scroll down and find ‘Developer Options’ and tap there
  • Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking

The developer option is not visible in the settings. But you can make is visible by the following steps

  • Go to Settings on your smartphone
  • Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap there
  • Tap on Build Number for 5-7 times to make the Developer Options visible
  • Now follow the standard steps to enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking

 

  1. Download the root package for your Galaxy J7

You need to download the root package for Galaxy J7. The root packages are different for every variant of Samsung Galaxy J7 which depends on your region of purchase. In Pakistan, the model mostly is J700F. To get to know your model number

  • Go to Settings on your smartphone.
  • Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap over there
  • Now Note down the model number.
  • Go to the official website of Chainfire (https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/) the CF behind CF Auto-Root.
  • Download the root package for your respective model.
  • Extract the CF Auto Root package and save the files in a folder in your computer.

Now download a TWRP .tar file for flashing Galaxy J7 after it is in the recovery mode. To download that

  • Go to the TWRP website (https://dl.twrp.me/j7elte/)
  • Download the most upto date file available. (both .tar file and the .img file)
  • Without extracting, store them on your PC

Now you need to download SuperSU. SuperSU is a program that will help you with the root access. The software allows you to do almost everything you can with rooting.

  • Download this version of SuperSU (https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip?retrieve_file=1)
  • Store it inside internal storage of your phone (without unzipping).

 

 

  1. Open your smartphone in Fastboot mode

Now open your smartphone in Fastboot mode

You can boot your smartphone into the Fastboot mode by following these steps.

  • Make sure that your smartphone is not connected to any PC.
  • Switch off your smartphone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down, Home and Power Button simultaneously.
  • Read the warning and, if agreeing, confirm by pressing the Volume Up key.

When your device boots into the download mode connect it to your computer using the original USB data cable.

 

  1. Process to do in your PC

After connecting your device, open the folder where you have extracted the CF Auto-Root.

  • Find the Odin3.exe and open it. If you have proper USB drivers of your device in your PC, you will be able to see ‘Added’ in Odin dialogue box.
  • Click on ‘AP’ button and select your TWRP .tar file by navigating to the folder where you put it.
  • Click on the ‘Start’ button.

 

  1. Install SuperSU with TWRP

You can install SuperSU on your Galaxy J7 which has custom recovery installed on it.

  • Boot your phone into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Power, and Home
  • After the bootup, select Install.
  • Scroll down till you find the SuperSU file.
  • Select it.
  • Confirm to start flashing process

When you click the start button the flashing process will start and after the process you need to reboot your device.  After the reboot your device would be rooted. Now you can disconnect the device from your PC and if you would like to confirm that your device is rooted or not you can download the root checker from Google play store and confirm the root. You will see the confirmation message
