Meanwhile, Foxconn is also close to finalizing deals with Indian government upon manufacturing of iPhone in India. Secondly, Apple is looking to sell refurbished iPhone handsets in India as the market is competitive in mid-range and low-end offering with price sensitivity under the hood. With these two agendas on the plate, Tim Cook recently met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss Apple plans to manufacture and retail iPhones in India.

70% of smartphones sold in the country last year were priced under $150. While Apple has only 2% market share in India, iPhone sales rose 56% in the country last quarter. As discussed earlier that customers are price sensitive and are brilliantly inclined to cheap technology, both manufacturing iPhones at low production cost and selling refurbished handsets can benefit the Apple in regaining the market share it is losing in Asian countries.
