Tim Cook has done whatever it takes to get Indian Government to accept expansion plans of Apple for Indian market. But its two major requests has been turned down by the officials out rightly. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not accepted the applications to sell refurbished iPhones and open Apple stores for Indian market. Currently, under a legislation 30 percent sales should be locally sourced to open retail stores in the market. Undoubtedly, Foxconn is closing a deal to produce iPhones in India and there were minor changes in the rule for foreign players to welcome investments but Apple’s case was exempted from it.

Recently Times of India reported a window being opened for this issue. Indian government has given three to two year time period to Apple for local sourcing network. For this it has to build connections with local vendors and close manufacturing deals in the country. It is likely that Apple buy components locally as well. In this regard, it has already started purchasing Chargers from the local market and exporting them.

The prime argument for make the rules stringent is augmenting the local job market. India will soon be the second largest smartphone market of the World and a hub for low cost production for foreign players. Apple is no exception to strive for its fair share in the market dynamics.
