PTA reveals 20million drop in telecosuser base

PTA has recently done its biometric verification for telecos and has strictly instructed to consider only those customers that have been verified. As a result of this, the user base number has dropped by more than 20 million overall in telecom sector.

The directive means that the current telecom user base has diminished by 15% making it 115.4 million as compared to 135.8 million on December 31, 2014. Statistically, right now Mobilinkhas highest user base which is 33.9% of market share followed by Telenor with 31.4%. Zong, Ufone and Waridare 3rd , fourth and fifth with 22.7%, 17.6% and 9.8% of the market share, respectively.

The telecos SIMs that are blocked will now become a misinterpretation if added, as  many of them were not in use for single day or for three months.

Here is how much of the user base of the telcos was affected by the biometric verification drive:

Mobilink lost 12% market share (4.5 million subscribers)

Telenor lost 14% market share (5 million subscribers)

Zong lost 14% market share (3.6 million subscribers)

Ufone lost 20% market share

Warid lost 21% market share

Mobilinklost least market share and retained its top position while Ufone and Zong both saw their user base shrink by more than 20%.
