Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Prepares Code of Conduct for Local Mobile Phone Assembly

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has finally prepared a draft for guidelines concerning the issuance of NOC to companies serious in the Local Mobile Phone Assembly in the country.

As per the section 29 of Telecom Act 1996, there can be no terminal equipment directly or indirectly associated with the public switched network until it has been approved by the authority, i.e. PTA.

In this regard, PTA has drafted all the guidelines in order to regulate the assembly of only those mobile phones that will be applicable, and which are solely approved by the PTA.

PTA can also however revise these guidelines with the passage of time and could therefore ask any company to evacuate its premises and leave out the assembly process.

For this purpose, what the local companies would be required is that they will first request on company’s letter head. Secondly, they will prepare and give a comprehensive technical presentation. Thirdly, a formal undertaking will be given to the PTA by the CEO of the concerned local company in order to comply fully with the conditions and guidelines of the authority.
