MediaTek is among the few to announce the Cortex-A72 chipset before the MWC. According to Digitimes the new part will be unveiled sometime in Q4 which means it will be available by CES 2016. It is built for better power efficiency and for this MediaTek MT679X chipset will pair the fast Cortex-A72 processor cores with A53 ones in a big. LITTLE setup. The chipset will not be built upon 28nm process and is speculated to use 20nm and 16nm FinFET. At 16nm, the A72 core will be 3.5x faster than a 28nm A15 and 1.9x faster than a 20nm A57. For GPU the choice is ARM’s Mali and partnering with AMD for new mobile graphics.
