MWC: MediaTek announces Helio P20 SoC

Keeping along with the innovations of the market, MediaTek has introduced its new Helio chipset keeping the naming convention of P. The new in P chipset is dubbed P20 and is likely to hit devices in the mid of 2016.There is 360 degree upgrade over the Helio P10, with an inclination towards power efficiency. It is likely to be 25% more power conserving than its predecessors.

This can be achieved with the octa-core ARM Cortex A53 setup, with the clock humming at 2.3GHz. Graphics department is handled by Mali T800, running at superfast 900 MHz, which is up till now the fastest GPU offer by ARM. The P20 comes with low-power double data-rate random access memory (LPDDR4X), which the latest and most advance in mobile chip.

Jeffrey Ju, Executive Vice President and Co-Chief Operating Officer at MediaTek commented on the Helio P20, saying:

“MediaTek designed the MediaTekHelio P20 to meet today’s consumer demand for sleek and powerful yet highly power-efficient mobile devices … Consumers place increasing importance on the battery life and multimedia capabilities of their smartphones. MediaTek has risen to this challenge with a leading solution.”

Further, the P20 chipset will support a FullHD display operating at 60 fps. Also, it will support fantastic, and heftier 24MP shooter with 13MP plus 13MP dual setup. It can handle video recording up to 4Kx2K resolutions at 30FPS. Connectivity options include Cat.6 LTE and 2×20 carrier aggregation at up to 300Mbps down/50Mbps up data speeds. The device has Dual-SIM plus Dual Standby support. There is also Wi-Fi ac, GPS/Glonass/Beidou, Bluetooth and FM radio.
