How to root Samsung Galaxy S5

Android gives freedom to its users so that they can customize their phone according to their needs.  Some users do it by installing custom launchers, while some users go with rooting their smartphones.

Yesterday, we told you about rooting your Samsung Galaxy S6. Today, we will mainly be talking about how you can root your Samsung Galaxy S5.

How to root Samsung Galaxy S5

You can root your phone by different methods. In some case you would require a PC and in some cases you do not. One-click rooting is the rooting that doesn’t require a PC, it is temporary and a relatively new phenomenon. We will be be using PC. We will be rooting Android 4.4.2 on Samsung Galaxy S5 using ODIN and CF Auto-Root tool.

 Note: Rooting your Samsung smartphone will void its manufacturer’s warranty and you may completely ruin your device. In case of any damage in any form while following this tutorial mobile phone collection will not to be held responsible in anyways. You may proceed at your own risk.

 Process:

 

  1. Back-Up

It is always recommended to backup your data incase you brick your phone by doing something wrong

You can either

  • Copy all the data from you mobile to your SD card and remove it.
  • You can transfer data to your PC.
  • Samsung backups can also be done through using Samsung Kies.

 

  1. Download USB drivers for your Samsung Galaxy S5

Too successfully connect your smartphone with your PC for flashing you would need to download the drivers.

Either

  • Download Samsung USB Drivers (http://www.devfiles.co/download/AbRa7wHc/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe)
  • Download Samsung KIES (Includes Drivers)(http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/)

 

  1. Enable USB debugging mode on your Samsung Galaxy S5

In order to enable the USB debugging mode follow these steps.

 

  • Go to Settings on your smartphone
  • Scroll down and find ‘Developer Options’ and tap there
  • Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking

The Developer Options isn’t visible in Settings menu. You can make it visible by following these steps.

  • Go to Settings on your smartphone
  • Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap there
  • Tap on Build Number for 5-7 times to make the Developer Options visible
  • Now follow the standard steps to enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking

 

  1. Download the root package for your Galaxy S5

You need to download the root package for your Galaxy S5.

Go to Settings on your smartphone.

 

  • Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap there.
  • Note down the model number.
  • Go to the official website of Chainfire(https://download.chainfire.eu/397/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.zip), the CF behind CF Auto-Root.
  • Download the root package.
  • Extract the CF Auto Root package and save the files in a folder in your computer.

After downloading the firmware, you would need to download Odin from the following

 

  • Download the Odin3(http://www.devfiles.co/download/CAHmXM6c/Odin_v3.09.zip)
  • Save the file on your PC and extract it.

 

  1. Open your smartphone in Fastboot mode

Open your smartphone in Fastboot mode by following

 

  • Make sure that your smartphone is not connected to any PC.
  • Switch off your smartphone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down, Home simultaneously and then press the Power button till you see the construction Android robot with a triangle.
  • Press the Power button again

When your device boots into the download mode, connect it to your computer using the original USB data cable only

 

  1. Process on your PC

Now, after connecting your device open the folder where you have extracted the Odin file

 

 

  • Find the Odin3.exe and open it. You will see ‘Added’. This might take some time.
  • Click on the ‘PDA/AP’ and browse to the file that you have to flash on your phone. This is the CF Auto-Root file downloaded earlier. Select the file ‘CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.tar.md5′.
  • Check the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes.
  • Click on the ‘Start’ button.

After sometime your phone will reboot automatically in the recovery mode. If you want to confirm your device is rooted or not you can check that the SuperSU application in available in the application drawer or you can download the application from the play store
