How to root Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Today we would be explaining you the rooting method for Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It is a bit old phone but many people still use this flagship device and rooting gives them lot of better options.

Some methods require PC and some does not. We will use the PC method because it is permanent method and much more reliable.

We will be rooting Samsung Galaxy Note 3 LTE N9005 (Snapdragon version) running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean using ODIN and CF-Auto Root tool.How to root Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Steps:

 

  1. Back-Up

First back up the data using a PC or you could store in the SD card. This is precautionary to do incase you brick your device

You can either

 

  • Copy all the data from you mobile into your SD card.
  • Transfer all the data to your PC.
  • Use Samsung Kies to backup the device.

 

  1. Download USB drivers to root Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Download the USB drivers for the  Samsung smartphone and install them on your computer. This will enable you to connect the smartphone to your PC. You can use the following link

 

  • Download Samsung USB Drivers from here (http://www.devfiles.co/download/AbRa7wHc/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe)
  • Download Samsung KIES (http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/) (Includes Drivers)

 

  1. Enable USB debugging mode on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3

To enable the USB debugging mode first go through these steps.

  • Go to Settings on the smartphone
  • Scroll down and find ‘Developer Options’ and tap there
  • Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking

By default, the developer options are not visible in settings so you can make visible by the following

 

  • Go to Settings on the smartphone
  • Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap there
  • Tap on Build Number about 5-7 times to make the Developer Options visible
  • Now follow the standard steps to enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking

 

  1. Download the package to root Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Now to download the root package you need to know the exact model of your phone. You can check this by the following

 

  • Go to Settings on the smartphone.
  • Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap there.
  • Check the model number if it is N9005.
  • Go to the official website of Chainfire (https://download.chainfire.eu/352/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip).
  • Download the package.
  • Extract the CF-Auto Root package on your system and save the files in a folder.

After downloading the firmware you will now download Odin

 

  • Download the Odin3 (http://www.devfiles.co/download/CAHmXM6c/Odin_v3.09.zip)
  • Extract the file on your PC and save the files in a folder.

 

  1. Open your smartphone in Fastboot or download mode

After disconnecting the smartphone from the PC do the following steps

  • Switch off the smartphone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down and Home simultaneously and then press the Power button until you see an Android with a triangle.
  • Press the Power button again

When the device boots in the download mode you can connect the PC using the original USB cable

 

  1. Process on your PC

After connecting your device open the folder on your system where you have extracted the Odin.

  • Find the Odin3.exe and open it. You will see ‘Added’ if you have the right drivers.
  • Click on the ‘PDA/AP’ button and browse to the file that you need to flash on your phone. This file should be the extracted file from CF Auto-Root file downloaded earlier.
  • Check if the Auto Reboot and Factory reset time boxes are checked. If not do check them.
  • Click on the ‘Start’ button.

The flashing will start and the smartphone will automatically reboot into the recovery mode with custom recovery installed. If it does not root and boot into the recovery mode and you will have to do the entire procedure all over again. When the boot is finished then you can safely disconnect the smartphone. To check if your phone is correctly rooted or not you can download the SuperSU application from the play store and it should be there in the application drawer
