Apple Rumored to Offer Cheaper HomePod Alternative

  Nabeel Akhtar

According to a recent Analytics report, 9.2 million smart speakers were shipped in the first quarter of the year and out of those only 600,000 units were the Apple HomePod. Apple managed to capture only 6% of the market’s share from January through March and fell behind Amazon’s 43.6% dominance and Google’s 26.5% share. The main reasons for this include Apple coming late in to the market, and offering the product at a high price of $ 349. In addition, Siri’s AI capabilities are much inferior in comparison to Amazon’s Alexa and the Google Assistant.

According to a rumor Apple will also be offering a cheaper smart speaker priced much less at only $ 199, also it would be released under the Beats name.

The main advantage which Apple’s HomePod has over the competition is its speaker, which is made up of a 4 inch woofer and 7 tweeters. The smart speaker also optimizes and matches the audio output to the size of the room where it’s placed. But the sound hardware is only half of a smart speaker, the other half being the AI capabilities of the device. Unfortunately, Siri is still quite far behind, compared to the competition.
