Everyone knows Sony goes out of the way in its IFA announcements, but this year it has made an even better stance with its Z5 family. A few accusations came after the announcement that Z5 Premium purporting that it is not 100 percent sincere with its 4k resolution. We immediately scrutinized the matter and found it to be true to an extent. The device UI are using the 8million pixels only to display appropriate UHD media but otherwise runs at 1080p.

Sony has released a statement concerning the necessity of this odd behavior:

Xperia Z5 Premium features a 4K display with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels based on SID Standard and enables all video and image content to be enjoyed in 4K resolution. All other content is displayed at 1080P or lower resolution in order to optimize the performance and battery stamina for this device, ensuring you can enjoy the 4K resolution when you need it most.”

This probably the best way to solve this puzzle and the Snapdragon 810 and the Adreno 430 GPU are not really designed to keep hold of this resolution for long. There, there was probably a need of keeping it with few things. Also, it can’t exclude Sony to be the first to provide 4k display resolution to its customers, however necessary clarification are needed to put an end to allegation being made.
