It seems Sony is not entertaining the lapses any more during the water usage of its newest smartphone Xperia Z5. According to the company, those who will use this smartphone will nullify their warranty. This is also valid for Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 premium.Usually these smartphones are advertised as dust proof and water proof, however, this time it seems there is a change of heart.

Still the promotional material contains the same pictures of the device underwater. But, here is what Xperia quoted regarding Z5’s IP68-certified resistance against water and dust on its official product page.

“You should not put the device completely underwater or expose it to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water or liquids such as drinks. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty.”

The company further explains this stance in a link that the device “should not use the device underwater, such as taking pictures”. The exposure to rain, spilling of water, and use of phone with wet fingers can be acceptable but the company again emphasized that it should not be used underwater. The phones are generally tested for these pressures under controlled conditions, however, if you go for swimming these pressures are not guaranteed, so, it may come out of it damaged. That is why the company is asking for a precautionary measure.
