Samsung and Google will now bring security updates on monthly basis

Very recently Android was found vulnerable to something being called Stagefright, and it impacts versions 2.2 Froyo and newer of the OS. However, a fix has been introduced which was installed through OTA by manufacturers and carriers.

But seeing the hazards of such virus in system the two companies have particularly announced monthly security updates considering their constant interaction with android ecosystem. Google, the developer of Android and the one in charge of software updates for Nexus line, has promised to bring security updates for monthly basis for Nexus devices. .

The first security update is rolling out to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10, and Nexus Player, to fix Stagefright damage. According to Google, Nexus devices are provided with security updates “for the longer of three years from initial availability or 18 months from last sale of the device via the Google Store”.

Following the same path, Samsung, the tech giant in Android devices, is also implementing a new security update process for its products.  It will track the vulnerabilities and provide the security patch. The updates will be OTA “regularly about once per month”.
