Google Project Ara is the new venture of Google for making modular phones. Consumers can now upgrade the hardware as per his/her wants. If he/she wants a different camera or storage, he/she can have it via new consumer Android phones. Google will also open new stores for the modules of Ara phones.

Google is working on a consumer Android phone.

With Ara phone Google will stand in competition with iPhone. Initially, there were many rumors for Project Ara but now the confirmation for its initiation has granted and formally a team or unit has joined Google to carry on with it. Google has introduced this unit to its Advanced Technology and Products Lab.

This is the first time Google is designing and manufacturing its own hardware. Before this Google has also designed its products but partnered with Huawei and HTC for manufacturing. The Nexus lineup has been designed this way.

Project Ara phones prototype has also been released along with show how its camera and speakers can be changed.

The interesting part is you can eject hardware with voice command. Like Okay, Google, eject the camera. The phone has six modular slots. You can put any hardware in any slot. The hardware are linked via Open Standard Unipro. Unipro can send 11.9GB data on both sides.

Project’s Ara consumer version will release in 2017 but developer version will roll out as soon as this autumn.
