According to an unconfirmed rumor, Google wants more from the Nexus program. Up till now most of its devices are the result of partnership with Android device markers. The report is speculating the trend will change in coming years.Google has been rumored to exert control just as Apple does for its devices. This means the company want itself to invest both in hardware plus software.

Google wants to run Nexus program under more Control

So if it is true that Google is planning 100% designing of its own, it is obviously manufactured by other companies as it does not have its own production unit. Eventually this means end of co-branding and only the Nexus moniker will appear on the devices.
