Project Ara is again in the limelight with some important queries being answered which will give true scope of what the devices will be about. Yes the modular phones is one part of it but what if it extends beyond smartphone realm. Moreover, there could be some revelation that is disappointing as far as expectations are concerned.

Project Ara will extend beyond just being smartphones.

Google answered considerable queries of The Verge claiming that smartphones will be modular but did not follow the traditional concept. There will be parts which will be non-modular like display, processor and RAM. The reason being these excluded that customers did not care about these options swappable which is undoubtedly true. Thus the coming phones will not be “Future Proof”.

Google also confirmed that bases of Project Ara will be home-brewed. The modules from other or third party manufacturers will be closely scrutinized and be approved by Google. This will also include code in order to get adjusted to Ara smartphone. In the beginning Google will sell Ara phones directly. Later it may reach other parties but surely there will be no grey market for Ara modules.

Despite this, Google confirms that it will be an “open platform” where various manufacturers and developers can build modules based on Ara development. Google says it is looking for “innovation on form factors” which means the concept can be extended for all electronics too.
