About a year ago, Synaptics revealed that in near future there will be a smartphone featuring optical fingerprint sensor. Its updated version was released a few days ago, in which the fingerprint scanner is theoretically placed under OLED. The company has also so far revealed that a top smartphone manufacturing company will use this technology and the phone featuring this will be appearing for the first time in upcoming CES 2018 event.

The Clear ID FS9500 sensor will be only working with the OLED display. Upon activation, it will be using the panel for illuminating the fingerprint, after which it will process the light beams. The company further claimed that this sensor will work under 1.5 mm thick sandwich, which will include the cover glass, screen protector, and the OLED screen.

The company also committed to provide the similar sort of security protection as was given in the case of FS9100 fingerprint scanner, which is already featured in many flagship phones, e.g. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. This will also have more durability vis-à-vis moisture and dirt, as it will be covered between the OLED and motherboard.

Moreover, most of the analysts have expected this feature to come first in Samsung Galaxy S9, but others say it might come in Vivo’s upcoming flagship smartphone.
