Semiconductor Association has recently published a report that states if an alternate is not found for excessive computer use then worldwide more electricity will be needed to cover the supply for these. In simple words it can be said if low power consuming computers are not produced, there could be serious shortage of electricity due to the usage of computers.

Excessive computer usage can cause electricity shortage.

SIA has published an analysis of semiconductor industry’s roadmap in which this prediction was also included. In computer’s world Moore’s Law is the basic of everything which states that microprocessor transmitters double after every 18 months. Due to which the electricity consumption doubles every 18 months.

This might lead to the situation where the electricity shortage would increase by 2040 if the production continues to grow at current rate. It is necessary to produce such microprocessors that consume less energy and use approximately half of the current requirement as per report. Semiconductor is using the same traditional technology for year and introducing a new technology would be expensive as per report.

However, there is no final decision by any of the industry experts.
