Telcos faced 1billion loss during two days complete blackout.

Pakistan Telecom sector faced approximately one billion loss in the last two days blackout on 9th and 10th of Muharram. Mobile voice and internet services remained suspended for the security of an Islamic event, the celebrations of which have been targeted by sectarian violence and terrorist attacks in the past.

More than 50 districts where impacted by the blackout, disturbingten million mobile subscribers, with telecom operators bearing a loss of about PKR. 1 billion. Moreover, the government also hit loss of around PKR. 300 million as an eventualtax coming from the calls and messaging.

The complete blackout of mobile services was to control terror attacks that were very widespread previously. The services gets suspended during the controversial and important religious and political events. As per informed by interior minister, mobile phones are being used by terrorists to control and monitor bombs.
