Sony is consistently facing troubled smartphone division. Even the launch of Z3+ has brought no fortune to the company. But very recent the diversified giant has come with a good news. There are some positive signs in operating profit. Yes the company reports a profit of $780million for Q2 which is 39% annual increase.
This all comes from a quarterly revenue of $14.5 billion, which is 0.1% down on a year to year basis. The highest performing division was the music division, which helped generated profit of $256 million, up 173% year-on-year. The camera sensor business also proved a success- up 164% to a total of $244 million. And finally, the real super profitable has been Sony‘s console business. It is up the whopping 350% and generated a total of $157 million during the quarter.
Sony also claims that the PlayStation 4 has been outselling the Xbox oneinternationally. Console will soon experience a major boom as China is lifting 14 years console ban so we expect even better sales in the coming months.
These all have contributed to offset the poor performance of a couple of other Sony divisions, like Sony pictures, which has $94 million in losses. The mobile division has really been struggling with a loss of $184 million, 16% down from the same period of last year. Hopefully Sony may manage to get things right with the debut of it next flagship Sony Xperia Z5 in smartphone segment.
