Undoubtedly, Skype has been facing a stiff competition from Duo and WhatsApp. Still, Skype has lately achieved a great milestone, i.e. it has reached more than 1 billion downloads on Google Play Store. Skype was the first major app for messaging and calls that became famous around the world, still it is nowhere near WhatsApp when it comes to competition.

The 1-billion mark does not yet include the downloads for Skype in iOS and neither Skype for Business app is considered in that. Moreover, it was revealed only last month that there more than 300 million active users of Skype every month on global scale.

Back in 2011, Skype was one of the most expensive software deals when Microsoft bought it for $8.5 billion, but later Facebook surprised everyone by buying out WhatsApp for $19.5 billion.

Moreover, we have experienced a complete overhaul in the redesign of Skype, which was however not appreciated by the people due to the flaws in it.
