Mobile Phones will now be built to predict earthquakes

The hardest to predict natural disaster earthquakes have now taken the attention of mobile developers keeping in view that this is a very expensive technology to build and maintain. A group of researchers have shown that a technology on mobile phones is enough to build an adhoc, crowd sourced, earthquake early warning system. Well this makes perfect sense as our smartphones have everything including GPS, accelerometer, and data connectivity also there are a lot more smartphones in use than there are industrial-grade seismic sensors. The basic technology is already in use but the unusual quantity of consumer data presents challenging as they might take an unusual sound or activity as enormous giving false alarms. The early warning system is primarily build to keep check on tremors before big shake-ups. Projections can also be made where the earthquake can happen.
Researchers searched the data from GPS connected devices in Japan from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake that created a colossal tsunami. The “crude” noises were filtered through the consumer devices, there has been accurate earthquake readings within about one minute of the first tremors of the quake. That is pretty notable given a sample size of 460 phones. The pilot project is likely to be performed in Chile. The aim is to build warning system in commercial smartphones. The devices will be utilized solely for building earthquake detection.
