Facebook has previously promised to roll out end-to end encryption in July, and finally the company has done it to make chats more secure.

Here are few steps to activate your end-to-end encryption. As per source, this functionality is available to 900 million users but only the roll out is automatically activated, everyone has to activate it manually in conversation anyway.

How to enable Encryption in Facebook Messenger.

  1. Firstly, go to the new conversation tab at the top right.
  2. Then click at the Secret in the top right.
  3. Now you can choose the person to chat and begin sending message.

If you want to activate this feature in an ongoing conversation.

  1. Firstly, open the thread where you are conversing.
  2. Select the name at the top of your screen.
  3. Select “Secret Conversation” to switch to encrypted mode.

If you don’t find the option of “Secret Conversation”, this means the other person you are chatting does not have the current conversation.  Also, the encryption is not applicable on GIFs and Videos, but you can send pictures and stickers.

It is important to note that enabled encryption will only work for the device you are using, if you switch to any other device, you again have to enable it to start secret conversation.
