On version 5.0, the official app is updated on an annual basis and generally open-sourced when the event ends as a how-to for developers. The app offers support for reserving session seats before time as well.

In terms of design, the app switches to a bottom bar which is animated with icons that augment when they are chosen and shrinkwhen not. The “My I/O” tab is populated with sessions that users have saved when they sign in using their Google Account.
