This will be a great news for those who prefer to communicate in our national language Urdu. Whatsapp Urdu will very soon be available in the iOS and Android App stores. This is timely move by WhatsApp as the Mobile penetration rates are increasing at a steady pace and Whatsapp has almost replaced SMS.

WhatsApp will soon introduce WhatsApp Urdu

While most of us write Urdu with English Alphabets, this will be great effort to restore tradition Urdu Writing. Therefore, dedicated Urdu version of Whatsapp could be very welcome news for people who don’t know English esp. those living in rural areas could particularly benefit from it.

Ahsan Saeed, who was the translator administrator for the project, said:

”I translated 753 strings and moderated 2089 strings in less than 3 months and made Urdu 18th language in which WhatsApp for Android has been fully translated. It was impossible without help of volunteer translators who put their efforts just for the love of Urdu.”

This move coulddefinitely add to the already stellar market share of WhatsApp and will surely make the telcos scratching their heads at how to grab the once over flooded river of SMS that generated immense revenues. Recently, messaging numbers decreased for the first time in history at Eid.

So this could be the initiative to beat the already dead horse.
