Use of cordless phones is being curbed by PTA as they interrupt 3G frequencies

Pakistan telecommunication Authority is urging to ban usage of cordless phones as they have been found disruptingnearby 3G services nearby. Authority has legally termed these cordless as illegal and notified that nobody should use them for their homes or offices.

PTA further added that these phones are mostly being dumped by European countries into third world countries like Pakistan as they had started disturbing in 1800Mhz band on which 3G services operate. Cordless phones which are manufactured in Europe, South Africa, Hong Kong and Japan generally run on1800Mhz band which is used by Pakistani telecom operators for 3G services. As the frequency is same as that of 3G, it disrupts the cellular services in Pakistan.

PTA’s Enforcement Division and zone offices in Karachi, Lahore, Muzaffarabad,Peshawar, Quetta and Rawalpindi held several meeting  with officials of FIA, Police, Chambers of Commerce, trade Unions, Importers, Vendors and Sellers of telecom equipmentsto aware them about the issues caused by cordless phones.

PTA has also restricted importers, distributors, sellers and users of cordless phones, to abstain from selling or using these phones. In case of usage legal action shall be taken against them via Law Enforcement Agencies including FIA.
