Three Billion Yahoo User Accounts Compromised under 2013 Security Breach

  MPC Team

Yahoo announced that security breach of August 2013 had affected 3 billion users; initially 1 billion figure was reported. This announcement clearly shows that if user had his or her Yahoo account, it must be part of the breach.

Account information such as email address, hashed password, name, phone numbers, birthdays and encrypted security questions and answers too were exposed to hack.

However, Yahoo did make a confirmation that user passwords weren’t compromised in clear text and that hackers didn’t acquire bank or any users’ credit card linked to his or her account. It shows that users information wasn’t completely hacked and some of the information stayed safe in the Yahoo hack 2013.

This news surfaced four months after the acquisition of Yahoo by Verizon Communications of $4.48 billion, initial offer was $350 million and it was cut to this because of the security hacks.
