Samsung no doubt is still the undisputed market leader but its market share is shrinking year-on-year. From 32.5% in 2013 to 28% in 2014 which is huge drop. Now in 2015, it is expected to drop further up to 26. 6% followed by iPhone with 16.4% market share which is fore casted to remain stable. The other companies joining the top ten team are mostly Chinese and from nearby regions. The names include Lenovo (and Motorola), LG, Huawei, Xiaomi, Coolpad, Sony, ZTE and TCL.

The Trendforce conducted the survey worldwide and estimated the overall usage of mobile phone be 1.2 billion in 2014 which is a noticeable increase from 972 million of the year before. They have also predicted the decline in Samsung’s share while Lenovo might also lose some market. The two companies gaining strength would be Huawei and Xiaomi. The predicted sales figure for 2015 is 1.3 billion smartphones.

Sammy’s downfall is aftermath of unsold inventory and emergence of affordable technology in the regional brands. If this situation is not tackled properly Samsung will have to pay a heavy price for it.
