Patent reveals: Nokia will soon enter foldable smartphone race.

Nokia is just out with its first smartphone Nokia 6. Interestingly, the rumors of foldable devices by other OEMs are steaming up. Though we have no clue when these will launch and will be made available but both Sammy and Apple are promising some major flexible innovations in coming years. Meanwhile, one more company which was a true emblem of features phone in industry has gone for this innovation package as per recent patent revealed.

Nokia has been prepping to enter market of foldable phones with a bang and recently a “Foldable Device” has been approved by US Patent and Trademark Office. A quick search of the document shows that Nokia filed this patent in 2013. Further research stipulates that few iterations of similar concept were filed in 2005, which means the concept is far from new.

The latest patent reflects a device that is of pocket mirror shape and the box opens with screen bending at both sides. As per patent description, “[i]n this way it is possible to provide a pocket size device with a relatively large display (for example, a 6, 7 or 8 inch display or larger).”

Further the patent follows a lock system, which shuts down the device from both sides just like a laptop. Of course, a single patent is not everything that reveals what the firm intends to do. In future, we may expect some more info on company’s foldable program. Keep reading.
