New Android Bug will potentially compromise the security of data being surfed

  Uzair Khan

A new bug has put more than 60% of devices running Android under huge security threat. If your Android phone or tablet runs 4.4 KitKat you also run the risk of getting in this trouble. The Bug is found by an independent researcher, Joe Vennix and engineer, Rafay Baloch. The Bug lies in the Web view component where whatever you surf is accessible to other applications. This a huge security compromise as anybody can access what is being surfed from anywhere.

This is not the first time the Android phones are under threat which is yet uncovered. This happened last year as well. This primarily happened with the earlier version of Android which uses Web kit for Web view rather than Blink (comes with later versions). Now the browser is also replaced by Google Chrome in newer versions which comprises of half of all traffic.

The Google was notified of the flaw but it instead of taking action they preferred to notify their partners for the remedy. Now what the users can do is to not to use the apps they do not trust. To cover this shortcoming Google has other apps like Google Play Services and Play store to offer.  In version 5.0 Lollipop, the same goes for Web View too. However, where possible, you should not refrain from updating the OS any further.
