Breaking: Disney Ending Deal with Netflix, Launching ESPN Stream Service

  MPC Team

Disney made a huge announcement today that it will be launching its own direct to consumer streaming channel and that the company is withdrawing its license deal with Netflix.

Another big announcement by Disney is the stream service for ESPN which will be launched next year. Last year, we heard that Disney has gained a minority stake in BAMTech which is behind popular sports services. Now, in BAMTech, Disney has declared majority stake and $1.54 billion investment.

A multi-sport service won’t be tied up with any third party (just like Sling). ESPN service would be over the top independent sports service. It is not sure what price Disney and ESPN are planning but the service would have core ESPN programs e.g. SportsCenter.

ESPN streaming service would have 10,000 live regional, international and national games and events. E.g. National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, Grand Slam Tennis, Major League Soccer etc.
