Ofcom investigated the issue and came to know that the calls had to pass through data center and Three network was not able to divert emergency calls through back up routes during the outage.

This is breach of agreement between the mobile operators with Ofcom to provide steady service to the emergency number every time.

Ofcom Director Gaucho Rasmussen said “Emergency number is very important and it is directly related to the security of people and we are fining Three today to warm all telecom operators in the region to ensure the steady access to the 999”

He further said that the fine must be paid in twenty working days and it should be taken very seriously which shows impact on the people security and health.

Three has now added a backup route for the emergency calls to resolve this issue in the future which is due to their network weakness.

Ofcom has warned all the networks in the UK to make sure that in the future there should be no single fault in the route of the emergency number. Otherwise they should be fined deliberately or the licensed could get cancelled.
