Huawei Honor 6 plus’s variable camera aperture explained.

As we know that Huawei Honor 6 Plus also known as Glory 6 Plus has introduced another innovative dual camera aperture, but audience still is unable to understand how the camera achieves an unusual performance with usual 8MP midrange camera orientation. Is the low-light performance of the system is due to the shutter blades with varying apertures ? This does not seem the case as it may necessarily the product of clever algorithms controlling the variable apertures of 8MP rear camera.

In order to see the work of the software on the dual-camera functionality, we must check how it stimulates varying aperture when you have control of aperture from f/0.96 to f/16. The aperture, here, is controlled via slider that allows you to select various levels in-between which would help in change of depth of field. You can, thereby, select the focus and the aperture of an image after you have captured it.

Technically, the system includes two precisely aligned cameras at the rear. The dual 8MP sensors, one comes with auto-focus cam with f/2.0 aperture, while the second one comes with fixed focus an f/2.4 aperture. As it is evident from the explanation, the effects are software-based as there are no physical variants in camera aperture.

The software deployed has powerful ISP with a ‘triple IE’ graphics engine that the company has been working on for almost two years. In the dual-camera, the fixed focus one captures a flat image with very little depth, while the secondary one can focus on nearby. Huawei is also using two different exposures – a short exposure and a long exposure, for a more vibrant image. Naturally, this also means that the Honor 6 Plus can capture an HDR image more effectively than actual HDR images.

Huawei also outputs 13MP shots for its dual 8MP camera sensors. Right below you can see various snapshots by Huawei Honor 6 Plus. Stereoscopic, 3D images etc
