Now twitter is giving more control to its users. Direct messages also shorten as DM’s are the private messages which unknown people sends it to you. There is a new feature in it which allows you to review DM from strangers. You can preview the the messages in Requests inbox. You can either accept it or reject it.
Its very similar to the facebook messenger app launched in October 2015. In facebook messages from the friends goes into your inbox folder and the messages from the unknown people goes to message requests folder.
They have done this to give users more control with conflict abuse and harassment. It’s good to report the bad or abusive tweets.
Twitter’s vice president Keith Coleman called it a secondary inbox kind of. He said that when a user accepts the message from an unknown person, the future messages will be directed to the main inbox instead of requests inbox. All the non-followers will only know when you accept their message, otherwise they won’t know if you have read their message or not.
