There has been a rumor whirling around that Warid is soon undergoing a merger or acquistion with the Mobilink. There has not been any concrete evidence for the news but we have some more information to keep you updated on what has happened so far.

Is Warid being acquired by Mobilink anytime soon?

Substantial times there had been efforts by Telenor, Mobilink, Zong, PTCL and Ufone to acquire Waridbut they couldn’t close deal with Dhabi Group. We have heard several times that Warid underwent negotiations with different telecom operators but no deal turned out to be positive due to the price offered to Dhabi group.

Given the track record, there is no such development going on the positive side as management of Mobilink tells there is no such thing which means due diligence process hasn’t started and Mobilink is almost no-where in acquiring Warid.

VimpelCom (the parent group of Mobilink) has also confirmed that the company is not up to for such venture. “If there’s anything about Warid-Mobilink deal, it could be nothing more than an intent at Mobilink headquarters that may translate into a proposal which will take at least 45 days for a go-ahead from VimpelCom”, said our source who works with Mobilink.

What the Mobilink will get this from the deal is wider consumer base to beat Telenor and other telecos. In addition to this, it will get the opportunity to have 4G LTE users on the board. For Warid, it will also be a real deal as well, after years of uncertainty Warid will be able to pick up the real strength it has got: quality network and loyal customers.

Warid and Mobilink management have lately met for some other one of its kind project that they are planning to do together. We will soon inform you regarding this. It’s altogether a different thing from merger / acquisition but chances are that someone misread the meetings.

Whatever happens, we wish it to be good for both Warid and Mobilink but for now there have been no on-going talks between both groups on merger or acquisition.
