There was lot of buzz about the Galaxy S8 being the first Samsung phone to feature in-display fingerprint sensor, but it didn’t happen. Now we have been hearing the same rumors about the upcoming Note 8. However, now we have learnt that the phablet’s fingerprint scanner will be placed on the back, thanks to the leaked images.

Samsung might announce a device with an in-display fingerprint sensor some time during the next year. The first Samsung phone with this technology would be the Galaxy Note 9, which will likely unveil in August or September 2018.

Egis and not Synaptics would supply the in-display fingerprint scanners. The technology is expected to cost 4-5 times higher compared to the regular sensors on smartphones. Fingerprint scanners are relatively low-priced to implement today and we do get them on affordable devices. But this might perk up the retails costs of the Galaxy Note 9 in case it is featured there.
