Xiaomi Has Just Cloned The iPhone X Successfully

  MPC Team

Xiaomi is currently amongst the biggest smartphone manufactures worldwide. Its products cater to the low and mid-range customers. Their success can undoubtedly be metered by the success of their products. A recent such achievement was the Redmi 5a becoming the highest selling Android phone in the world, during the company’s first quarter of 2018.

Though, it isn’t all positives when it comes to the Chinese manufacturing giants. Xiaomi has a reputation of deriving their success from cloning Apple devices and one of their latest models, Mi 8, not surprisingly has been labeled an “iPhone X ripoff”.

The major similarities between Xiaomi Mi 8 and iPhone X include:

  • Almost the same shape.
  • Rear facing, double cameras, separated by the flash, at the top-left side.
  • A wide notch on top of the screen.
  • Similar speaker grill and charging port design on the bottom of the device.
  • The same left-to-right, red-to-blue color-splash wallpaper in marketing materials.
  • 3D Face unlocking capabilities.
  • Animated emojis that track facial expressions.

Mi 8 iPhone X similarity

The Mi 8 has a 6.2 inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution (2248×1080 to be exact). It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 846 chipset along with 6 GB RAM and internal storage options of 64/128/256 GB. Ring any bells?

The phone carries a dual camera setup on the back, with one lens of 12 MP with f/1.8 and a second optical zoom lens with f/2.4 aperture. Like the iPhone X, the front camera is placed in the notch. The front camera has a resolution of 20 MP with an aperture of f/1.8.

The notch includes an infrared sensor which will be used for a “safer” face unlock. Xiaomi has claimed improved usage of the infrared sensors in dim lights, which can help the face unlock feature also work in dark conditions. In addition to this the infrared sensor will be used for the Animated Emoji feature, which maps your face muscles onto animated emojis to give a real-time effect.

The Mi 8 similar to the iPhone, does not feature a headphone jack, prompting users to go wireless.

Keeping all this in view, it’s safe to say that Xiaomi has managed to clone Apple once again. The question is will consumers buy Xiaomi’s story line? Or will it just be a iPhone X clone which nobody wanted.
