Sony’s flagship smartphone for 2016 was Xperia XA Ultra which was a 6 inch display model with a selfie camera. In MWC 2017 Sony updated the Xperia XA Ultra which was in the form of Xperia XA1 Ultra.

Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra vs Xperia XA Ultra Comparison review

Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra vs Xperia XA Ultra: Design

Sony XA1 Ultra is almost same in design as Xperia XA Ultra.  Both mobiles are 6 inch in size. Like the XA ultra XA1 ultra the 6 inch screen is spread in the entire width of the handset. XA1 ultra has symmetrical curving with a unique finish. There is a drawback that both XA Ultra and XA1 Ultra are not water resistant.

Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra vs Xperia XA Ultra: Screen and media

Both of the phones have a 6 inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixel full HD resolution. Sony offers Vivid mode to boost colors but does not offer Hi resolution audio and for better audio quality you will have to get higher end Sony Xperia phones.

Both XA ultra and XA1 ultra has microSD card slot if you want to increase its memory

Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra vs Xperia XA Ultra: Features and OS

The Xperia XA1 ultra has Android Nougat while XA ultra has an old Marshmallow 6.0.  However, there is still plan to upgrade it to Nougat 7.0.

The new Sony Xperia gives a new color scheme and the handset comes in Black, white, gold and pink color

Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra vs Xperia XA Ultra: Performance and battery life

Xperia XA1 ultra comes with a Helio P20 processor with 4 GB RAM and XA ultra comes with Helio P10 and 3GB RAM. You get smart new Qnovo battery tech in XA1 ultra which is not present in XA ultra. This helps to monitor battery charging and helps to know if battery is not over charged

Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra vs Xperia XA Ultra: Cameras

Xperia XA ultra back camera is 21-megapixel f/2.2 snapper with HDR assistance and you can also shoot full HD footage.

Xperia A1 has 23-megapixel camera with a snapper1/2.3” Exmor RS for mobile sensor and f/2.0 lens for low light

XA Ultra and XA1 ultra has a 16 MP selfie cam with optical stabilization and a flash too which is good for a selfie during the night.  The new feature is that you can get a selfie picture with just a wave of your hand and you do not have to use shutter button.

Conclusion:

Both are the budget end phones and priced around $300. The Xperia XA1 ultra is good for those if we want a better pixel camera and latest Android. Xperia XA Ultra is also a good option for those who cannot afford a pricy phone.  In my view both are mediocre phones and are at a good price range.
