Samsung Planning To Supply Exynos Chipsets To ZTE And OEMs

  Nabeel Akhtar

One of the most profitable business divisions of Samsung is its semiconductor business. The Exynos mobile chipsets is one of the manufacturer’s most popular technologies. But this particular chipset is not widely seen integrated in mobile phones manufactured by other companies. The only external client buying this chipset from Samsung is Meizu, which installs the Exynos in its new 15 Plus phone. According to a Reuters report the Korean company Chaebol is in negotiations with ZTE and other OEMs to start supplying them with mobile processors. This is to strengthen its position to rival with Qualcomm.

Inyup Kang, Head of Samsung’s logic chip developer System LSI is a former Qualcomm executive. He revealed that Samsung is nowadays “talking to all OEMs”. He confirmed that the list of Samsung’s new clients can be revealed in the first half of 2019. Although, Samsung did clarify that no deal is reached and all OEMs are treated equally by them.

Samsung began its search for new clients when ZTE got banned from purchasing Qualcomm products. This was due to violation of the trade embargo which involved importing Snapdragon powered devices in to Iran and North Korea.

In terms of mobile SoC production, Samsung is still lagging far behind manufacturers such as Qualcomm and Apple. The company’s decision to use in-house chips as a solution helped the company grow its smartphone business.

  1. Single threaded performance should show a big improvement due to pure CPU improvement in ZTE!

    • Qualcomm chipsets will not be as good as they are today if not for Samsung.

  2. The A10 and 11 also have 4 and 8 cores, which can be even better utilised in Android as a lot more goes on in the background in Android.

    • The only issue i can see is battery life could take a hit as Android has a lot more background processes, which will keep more cores active than in iOS

  3. I do wish others would use Exynos chips, but we can already do things to see Exynos in its full potential with just a Samsung phone.

  4. It would be great to see an android one device powered by Samsung’s latest flagship Exynos.
It will finally be able to show its full potential when it breaks free from Samsung’s bloatware.

  5. I do wish others would use Exynos chips, but we can already do things to see Exynos in its full potential with just a Samsung phone.

  6. Will be great to see non-Samsung phones with powerful Exynos chipsets
