Major shuffling at Sony’s top hierarchy, CEO steps down!

  MPC Team

Kazuo Hirai is going to step down as CEO of Sony after remaining in the position for six years. He will be sidelined to the position of Chairman of Sony and the incumbent CFO Kenichiro Yoshida will be replacing him as the new CEO.

Yoshida will take over as CEO on 1st April, after which the post for CFO will be vacated, which will then be filled by the current Sony Mobile CEO namely Hiroki Totoki.

Moreover, Kaz Hirai was the person who had hired Yoshida as Sony’s Strategy Chief, and both of them have closely worked together for the last four years.

This means that Hirai will remain there with Sony as its Chairman and will be there to facilitate the smooth transition of top officials in the hierarchy.

The mobile division of Sony has also been struggling for some time and it has not been able to maintain its effectiveness in the overall global mobile phone competition.

So, with the major changes in the hierarchy, we can only hope that Sony will be back in the frontline competition in the mobile phone industry, and the first ray of hope is the introduction of 18:9 screens in upcoming Sony mobile phones.
