Before this incident, you have never heard a smartphone exploding in the box. A Reddit user has reported that his friend has purchased an iPhone 7 Plus which exploded in the box. As per Reddit user kroopthesnoop, his friend’s iPhone 7 exploded before coming out of the box. He has seen it yet when the incident happened. This iPhone 7 was pre-ordered by the user which exploded on reaching its destination.

The good part was that the box did not catch fire which would have been more damaging.

When the burnt device was scrutinized, it dawned upon the investigation team that it is similar to Galaxy Note 7 explosions which were due to battery issues.

When Apple customer care was contacted, an Executive from Apple Texas Office assured that user will get a replaced handset.

This is the only reported case of battery explosion in Apple iPhone 7 series, hence you cannot mix it with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 issue.
