1. Picture-in-Picture Mode

The main focus of this feature is to allow the multitasking, which will be done when you turn on picture-in-picture mode.

The main benefit of this feature is to use multiple apps simultaneously. For example, you can keep watching a video on YouTube while at the same time checking Facebook screen even on full-screen mode.

Specifically for Google’s own apps, icons have been updated in to an improved form. Moreover, users will also be able to the change icons’ shapes, which means there is a greater degree of customization in the way you want to look at shapes and icons.

3. Notification Dots and Colors

There will apparently be no change in notification dots and colors, but you will now be able to change the individual colors depending on the app that you are running. One example is that while playing the music, the notification will highlight the respective album’s color for that song.

Moreover, these notification dots will now be available in other apps as well. It was however only reserved for Google Pixel before, and few ROMS also used to get this feature every now and then. Similarly, the tapping and holding of the icon of an app will highlight you notification and also other options for that respective app.

4. Settings Menu Reorganized

We had been experiencing a problem in exploring the right settings since the marshmallow. However, Oreo’s release has made things much better in this regard, as all the settings have been organized together in to different sub-menus so that user will be able to find the right settings in much more easier manner than ever before. It is very minor however very significant change in Oreo.

5. Emojis Renovated

There has been a long debate on emojis. Google had previously changed the appearance of emojis by introducing simpler and flatter ones. However, it was heavily criticized for having done that. The emojis introduced now in 8.0 Oreo look like a transformation between 2D and 3D.

6. Autofill Framework

There was a time when you had to give long login details for every app or website. Then came autofill frameworks, which also did not work properly frankly speaking. However, Android Oreo has finally made the form filling much more easy and convenient.

All you need to do for enabling this autofill form feature is by tapping on Settings > System > Languages & Input > Advanced > Input Assistance > Autofill Service.

The developers will also provide autofill hints in order to transform the form filling easier as well as faster. This form will also itself mark those fields that are significant for an autofill, so that it will be able to remember those credentials that you can use for Twitter, Facebook etc.

7. Notification Channels

A new feature introduced in Oreo is that you can select some notifications for apps through while you can also block some other unnecessary ones.

One example of this sort is that you will be able to turn off all new notifications coming from Google Allo, whereas the message notifications can be turned on. This can also be done for other Google apps such as Chrome.

8. Improved Users’ Sharing Preferences

Android Oreo will now be able to send you suggestions and notifications about different things based on activities that you are doing while opening different applications. This sounds creepy though.

One example of this sort is that when you take your selfie, the OS will make you an instant suggestion about sharing on social media such as Instagram or Facebook. Similarly, it will automatically suggest you about the sports app if you take photo of a football.

9. Smart Text Selection

Moreover, when you highlight any text on your message app or email, Oreo OS will automatically attempt to understand its context. For instance, if the copied message is an address, then you will quickly witness a Google Maps link as well as other copy-paste options that you might be interested to use. Moreover, Android will only be learning such patterns depending upon the personalized preferences of the users.

10. Background Tasks Limits

One of the most significant modifications made in Android Oreo is that how it will be handling the background tasks. Apps were earlier permitted to control the amount of resourced that they will take up. This actually meant that Microsoft office app or other heavy apps would slowly slow down your phone and will secretly consume all your battery.

However, now the background tasks have been limited. Through this, you will experienced an improved battery life as well as lesser instances of Android Oreo working slow.

11. Wi-Fi Aware

Another significant feature introduced in Oreo is that devices that are using Android Oreo will be able to discover as well as connect to each other directly through Wi-Fi Aware feature. This feature is also known as Neighbor Awareness Networking aka NAN.

Android will hence be supporting the device discovery without even utilizing the conventional Wi-Fi access points.

12. All-new Bluetooth Audio Codecs

The users were limited to the AAC and aptX codecs in the earlier versions of Android. This meant that some of the Bluetooth headphones would not be working directly on users’ smartphones. However, with the addition of new Bluetooth audio codecs, Android Oreo will solve this users’ problem and the latter will be free to enable any of the codecs of their choice.
